A hole by hole account of how the Old Course will be affected

First Hole

This hole will suffer most in the plan due to the entire removal of the green. A replica replacement is not acceptable for such a historic course. Golfers will be required to cross the sand track at this point and the floodlight masts will be in close proximity.

Second Hole

The tee would be moved forward and the hole would be turned into a very poor short par 4 within driving range. Th fairway would be realigned nearer to eighth fairway and would create a dangerous area. There would be little or no rough on right hand side of fairway, which would be bordered by unplayable sand.

Third hole

The tee would be realigned away from racecourse but sand would come into play - the green would be moved slightly and rebuilt.

Fourth hole

The most famous hole on the Links - Mrs Formans.

The tee would be moved back and a landing area short of bend would be created. The distance from tee to the landing area would be about 150 yards followed by two shots to reach green - most unsatisfactory!

Fifth hole

The new tee behind the wall would shorten the hole but make it safer from shots at the previous hole. The bottom extended bend of the race track would come very close to green.

Sixth hole

Another well known hole on the course, The Table, and one time famous for Pandy bunker.  This bunker was removed some years ago to make more room for the racetrack. The new hole would have different tees. The medal would be outside the racetrack while others would be inside. A new road will be situated very close to the green with very little apron.

Seventh hole

This hole would have a new tee.

Eighth hole

This hole would not be affected.

Ninth hole

The hole would be redesigned and the green rebuilt.
